Actors & Writers: Cold Reading Series

The Cold Reading Series is Vancouver’s original live script reading event. Produced by Lori Triolo and Colin Speir, The CRS encourages innovation and connection between writers, directors, actors, producers and audiences. We program an evening of original scripts by Vancouver’s most exciting writers, cast professional actors on the spot, and watch it come to life in front of a live audience.

TWSers, this is a fantastic series that has been running for 16 years now. This was one of the first writing-related events I went to when I first moved to Vancouver, and it is a great way to meet writers, actors and have an all-around great time!

For screenwriters: Since it’s a cold reading, the actors don’t have time to rehearse your scenes. They’ll read exactly what’s on the page and you get to hear if it’s working. It’s an invaluable part of the script development process. Plus, immediate feedback from a live audience – you get to hear what’s working, and what needs tweaking.

For actors: At the CRS, they cast brand new scripts on the spot then watch them fly in front of a live audience. Actors need to make quick, strong choices and commit to the story. You don’t have to submit your headshot and resume, just come on down.

Submitting a script: The CRS accepts submissions year round. See The CRS site for submission guidelines.
