HOT OPP: Vancouver Manuscript Intensive 2010 Deadline and Faculty

Who you are: a writer looking for community, mentorship and a chance to develop your work in a supportive, exciting environment.

Who we are: 3 Vancouver writers/mentors with extensive experience helping writers develop their work. VMI is in its fourth year.

What we offer: A unique blend of 4 one-on-one personal meetings, 3 group discussions of craft and publishing, finishing off with a public reading in a popular café.

When: January – May, 2010.  Deadline for applications: December 1, 2009.

Betsy Warland is an acclaimed West Coast poet, essayist and prose writer. Author of 10 books, including Bloodroot – Tracing the Untelling of Motherloss,  Betsy has acted as a manuscript consultant for 17 years. Her book, Breathing the Page, 24 Essays on Writing, is forthcoming from Cormorant Press, 2010.

Claudia Casper’s novel The Reconstruction (Penguin Books) sparked a 6-publisher bidding war, sold rights in the US, UK and Germany and was a Maclean’s bestseller  for 3 months. Her recent novel, The Continuation of Love by Other Means (Penguin) was a finalist for the Ethel Wilson Award.

Shaena Lambert’s novel, Radiance, was a Best Book of the Year in The Globe and Mail, Quill and Quire, and The New Zealand Star Herald and was a finalist for the Rogers Writers Trust Fiction Prize and Ethel Wilson Award. Her book, The Falling Woman — published in Canada, the UK and Germany — was also a Globe best book.
