The Writer’s Studio initiated the first Downtown Eastside Writers’ Jamboree last November along with assistance from the Friends of the Library and the Carnegie Centre. The two day event was a packed with DTES and TWS writers in conversation with Round Table guest editors, publishers, and authors. Also featured were Blue Pencil individual writer—author consults and evening readings.

TWS was thrilled to recently receive a Vancity grant of $6,900 which will not only insure the Writers’ Jamboree again this November, but will expand it to include a scholarship and a writing competition.

TWS alumna Shana Myara wrote the Vancity grant with assistance from TWS Director Betsy Warland (on right in photo). Elee Kraljii Gardiner, TWS alumna, (on the left in photo). Elee has been teaching a writing workshop called Thursdays (see their chapbook website thursdayspoems.wordpress.com) at the Carnegie Centre for the past year and a half.
