 The Writer's Studio

Potential Applicants

The Writer’s Studio welcomes a wide variety of writers to apply to our program. Educational backgrounds range from secondary school diplomas to PHDs. Formal training in creative writing ranges from none to online, to credit and non-credit courses, to creative writing programs such as those at Humber and Banff.

In the TWS student population, like other creative writing programs, women outnumber men.

The majority of our writers are between twenty years old and the mid-forties, with several in their fifties or sixties. Our writers are diverse in life styles, cultural heritage, racial backgrounds, and country of origins. This diversity results in writing that spans the genre-driven (such as speculative fiction) to the experimental. Applicants often have had some work published in zines, newspapers, journals, magazines, or anthologies.

All of our writers are passionate about writing. Highly-self motivated, they are eager to learn as much as they can during their year in TWS.

For more details about the program itself, including a yearly calendar of courses and events, please review the TWS brochure, or the Schedule page.
