TWS Reading Series: May 13th at Rhizome Cafe

Please join us for the TWS Reading Series this May. It will be held at Rhizome Cafe (317 E. Broadway) on May 13th at 7pm.

Readers Include:

CHERYL NOON is new to the poetry scene, as her interest peaked last spring. In the past year she has appeared in three anthologies, two of which were exclusively for youth writers, and one by Greenspring Publishing, open to writers of all ages. This will be her first time reading.

RAOUL FERNANDES writes poetry and often dabbles in visual art and music. He has recently started a community blog called Cloud Farm in which ideas for art and art-related projects in all disciplines are shared or given away.  Visit  cloudfarm.wordpress.com for more details or to submit your own ideas.

REX MOORE Back by popular demand after his widely acclaimed December reading of Ode to a Creek and the subsequent story of the posting of the poem on a DNV sign post prompting passer-by’s to stop, read, burn, bury and heap praise, providing inspiration for Ode to a Creek, Spring 2010.

What goes on among “gray-hairs” - ever-older parents and very middle-aged children - has long-fascinated CLARISSA P. GREEN, a 2007 TWS Graduate. Her careers as university teacher and therapist combine with the antics of her siblings and parents to create a marinade of stories, poetry and essays.

BETTY ANN SPINKS is First Nations from Lytton, B.C. but now lives in Vancouver.  Writing found her late in life and through writing she hopes to find her long-lost voice that’s been buried deeply.  She’s taken a few writing courses and is currently enrolled at TWS.

EDWARD PARKER is in his seventeenth year of a four-year undergrad degree in English lit at SFU, and is currently a member of The Writer’s Studio and the Thursdays Writing Collective. Though mostly known for his creative non-fiction, he also writes fiction and has recently written his very first poem.

ADRIENNE DROBNIES is a poet/scientist and attended The 2009 SFU Writer’s Studio. Her long poem Randonnées was short-listed for the CBC literary award in 2010.  Her work has appeared in Canadian poetry journals and anthologies, including From Sinai to the Shtetl and Beyond: Where is Home for the Jewish Writer?

KERRY SANDOMIRSKY is a professional actor with over 100 credits to her name on both stage and screen. After winning the Jessie for Outstanding Performance by a lead actress in 2008, she was injured in rehearsal and has spent the past year in brain recovery program. TWS 2010.

Born in Toronto, IVAN ANTONIW found that when he moved to Vancouver, poetry crept up and bit him in the ass.  He’s been infected ever since.  He’s a current student at TWS and although he’s read his work before, this is the first time it’s been preceded by a bio.

MORGAN CHOJNACKI
is writing a novel about Corine, who’s 16, lives in a French town in Quebec, goes to an English high school, has a best friend named Kat and immigrant parents who think too much. Morgan has  published fiction and non-fiction in the Button Jar Project and other publications.
